Kai Parker, a member of the Gemini Coven was released from his prison world and now seeks to finish his merge with his sister Jo and take over the coven as its leader. Not only did the crash bring back Kai but also many other supernatural dead as well. The barrier around Mystic Falls is also gone and no one knows how. Was it Kai? Or could it have been someone else no one expected?
New Orleans is full of drama. Esther has taken Elijah in hopes of persuading him to take her up on her offer to give him a better life. Using torture to make him see the errors of his vampire life she hopes to break him down and change his mind. Klaus and Hayley still seek to protect their secret, that Hope is still alive, but are finding that making the city safe for her return might be only wishful thinking. Tatia has risen from her sleep and with that finding she has some secrets of her own. Rayna, a woman from Klaus' past is in New Orleans and he doesnt know whether she is on his side or out to destroy him for his mistakes against her. New and old faces are returning to New Orleans. Which side will they choose to fight for?
